Discrimination and harassment

Discrimination

Just like any other university in Sweden, Lund University must work to counteract discrimination. The Discrimination Act (2008: 567) exists to counteract discrimination and promote equal rights and opportunities regardless of gender, transgender identity or expression, ethnicity, religion or other belief, disability, sexual orientation or age. The Discrimination Act applies to Lund University as an education provider, ie to the university in relation to both employees and students.

If you as a student feel exposed to discrimination and want someone to talk to who is not employed by the University, you can always contact your student union, your student safety representative or the Student Ombudsman. There you can get information about how to get in touch with an Anti-discrimination bureau or information about how to proceed with a complaint to the Equality Ombudsman (DO).

Harassment and sexual harassment

According to the Discrimination Act (2008: 567), harassment is conduct that violates someone's dignity and is related to one of the seven grounds of discrimination, gender, transgender identity or expression, ethnicity, religion or other belief, disability, sexual orientation or age. This can take the form of ridiculing someone or making demeaning generalisations, for example.

Sexual harassment is conduct of a sexual nature that offends someone’s dignity. It can take the form of comments and words, groping or indiscreet stares. Unwelcome compliments, invitations and innuendos can also constitute sexual harassment. It is the person exposed to the behaviour who determines what is unwanted, unwelcome or offensive.

If you are a student and feel that you have been subjected to harassment or sexual harassment at Lund University, you can turn to the head of your department or another employee whom you trust.

Employees at Lund University have a responsibility to inform the head of department concerned. If you want to speak with someone outside of the university you can always turn to your student union, your student health and safety representative or to the Student Ombudsman for advice and help.

More information about harassment and sexual harassment at Lund University can be read on its website HERE. If you have any questions, you can always contact the Student Ombudsman.
